The Original is the buoyancy short Zone3 invented back in 2007, and it's stuck around because the basic idea still works: a thicker side panel lifts the hips through open water swim training, worn over your swimwear like a low-profile pull buoy you never have to hold. It's a straightforward short without the premium panel tech of the Aerodome Elite above it, built for swimmers who just want reliable lift at an accessible price. This is the short you hand a training partner who's never used one before.

Side panels run 5mm neoprene to promote hip rotation and lift through the stroke, while the centre front and back panel runs 3mm Yamamoto Smoothskin neoprene for buoyancy without restricting the kick. Unlike the Aerodome Elite, there's no branded air-bubble panel technology here, just a straightforward two-thickness neoprene build using the same Yamamoto material family Zone3 uses across its triathlon wetsuits.
Construction is stitched and bonded the same way as Zone3's wetsuits, and the drawstring waistband is adjustable for a snug, unisex fit. The size range runs XS through 2X-Large, one size wider than the Aerodome Elite, so it covers a broader range of training partners off one rack.
